Central Asia is such a compelling region: many of our clients request a tour that combines several countries.

Below are 2 sample itineraries: one is a 22-day tour starting in Western China and visiting Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and concluding in Tashkent. The other is a 16-day tour starting from Almaty that visits Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan.

You can do the both journeys in reverse, you can add additional days in places of particular interest and Tajikistan could be included as well. Both 3 and 4 star hotel options are available. We would be delighted to tailor a combined country tour for you.

Season: June through September

Tash Rabat
Day 1: Catch the morning flight from Beijing to Urumqi. Urumqi is the main city of the Xinjiang Autonomous Region of China. It is situated in the heart of the Eurasian continent on the northern slopes of Tian Shan mountains. Urumchi in ancient Mongolian 'the fine pasture'. Transfer to hotel. Visit the Xinjiang Autonomous Region Museum and Erdao Qiao Market.

Day 2: Catch the morning flight to the oasis city of Kashgar. City tour visiting the Id Kah Mosque and the Tomb of Yusup Hazi Hajup. Overnight at a hotel.

Day 3: Try to schedule your trip to be in Kashgar on Sunday -- its Sunday bazaar is believed to be the largest outdoor market in the world! As Marco Polo wrote about Kashgar “It is an eastern Cairo, where there are mountains of goods, and people swarm like bees”.There are also interesting historical monuments to visit.

Day 4: Transfer early in the morning to Torugart Pass. This pass is only open Monday - Friday, from 9:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. Meeting with the Kyrgyz travel company at Kyrgyz-Chinese border “Torugart”. Transfer to Tash-Rabat (115 km), an 11th C caravanserai that served as a fortress for travellers along the Great Silk Road. This is a carefully restored stone building. Overnight in yurts. Meals: BLD 

Day 5: After breakfast transfer to Kochkor. Lunch in Naryn town on the way. On arrival in Kochkor you will visit a felt carpet workshop where you can see the process of making Kyrgyz national carpets. Dinner and overnight in a home stay. Meals: BD

Day 6: En route to Tamga village visit Skazka valley where sandstone cliffs have been shaped by centuries of wind and melting snow into an ensemble of columns and canyons  ranging  from deep red to bright orange. Free time after arrival. Overnight in the guest house.
Option on the way:  Eagle hunting show in Bokonbaevo – USD100 in total per show. Meals BD.

 Day 7: In the morning drive to Jety-Oguz gorge, which is a lush valley with some striking red sandstone rock formations (the 'Seven Bulls' from which the valley takes its name). Picnic. Free time for hiking. Transfer to Karakol. Overnight in a guest house. Meals BL

Day 8: After breakfast city tour in Karakol: visit the wooden Russian-orthodox church, Dungan Mosque and Prezhevalsky-Museum. Transfer to Cholpon Ata. In Cholpon-Ata visit the open-air art gallery of stones, said to date from 500 BC – 100 AD. They depict wolves, long-horned ibex, goats, horses, snow leopards, sacrifices and some hunting scenes. Overnight in a hotel on the Northern shore of Issyk Kul lake. Meals B

Day 9: Drive to Bishkek (250 km, 4 hours). Transfer to a guest house. Sightseeing tour: Oak Park, Ala -Too Square, Philarmonic hall, Statue of Manas, Victory Square.  Meals: B

Day 10: After breakfast depart Bishkek and drive to Almaty (250 kms) via a newly built highway. Free time in Almaty after hotel check in. Meals: B

Day 11: Sightseeing in Almaty. Visit Panfilov Park, Zenkov Wooden constructed Cathedral, St.Nicholas Cathedral, National Musical Instruments Museum, Central State Museum, Almaty's Green Bazaar, the Observatory. Meals: B

Day 12: Morning transfer to the airport for the flight to Tashkent.Arrival to Tashkent, transfer to the hotel. Free time. Overnight. Meals: B

Day 13: Morning sightseeing in Tashkent. You can see the contrast between the old and modern city. In the old town you will enjoy Chorsu bazaar, then later visit the Khasti Imam complex. It contains the 16th C Barakhan Madrasa, the Mui Muborak library where you can see ta 7th C Koran, and new biggest mosque Hazrati Imam built in 2007 when Tashkent was announced as a Centre of Islamic culture.You will also visit Amir Temur Square, Independence Square, and the Applied Arts Museum in Tashkent. In the afternoon drive to Samarkand (297km, 4hrs). Meals: B

Samarkand
Day 14: Full day sightseeing in Samarkand, the capital of ancient Sogdiana and one of the oldest cities in the world. You will visit Registan square, Gur Emir mausoleum, Bibi Hanum mosque, Samarkand bazaar, Shahi Zinda complex, Afrosiab museum, Ulughbek observatory. Overnight Samarkand. Meals: B

Day 15: Drive to Bukhara (270 km, 4 hrs) and stop en route briefly at Rabbati Malik, the ruins of an 11 C caravanserai. After checking into the hotel, begin a guided sightseeing program in Bukhara. Visit Chashma Ayub (Job’s well), the 10C Mausoleum of Ismail Samani,  Bolo Hauzmosque, Ark Fortress, Kalon mosque and minaret,  Miri-Arab madrassah. Meals: B

Day 16: A full day exploring Bukhara's marvellous sites such as the trade domes, now filled with wondrous goods, e.g. modern and antique jewellery, carpets, fabrics. Visit the Lyabi Hauz complex including Nadir Divan Begi madrassah, the Jewish synagogue and school, Chor Minor. Meals: B

Talkhatan Baba

Day 17: Bukhara-Mary (Turkmenistan) Drive to the border (120 km). Complete border formalities. Drive to Mary via Turkmenabat. En route visit t the mausoleum of Talkhatan Baba, the 12th C (masterpiece of Seljuk architecture. The old Silk Road which connected Bukhara and Mary lies through Kyzylkum Desert (Red Sand desert)and Karakum (black Sand) you can make a short stop at the bank of Amudarya river, named the river Oxus by the Greeks. Almost 300 km of the road goes through the desert. Afternoon arrival in Mary, check in to the hotel. Overnight. Meals: B

Day 18: Mary – Merv - Ashgabat: Drive to Bairamaly (25 kms). Sightseeing in ancient Merv, founded in the 6th century BC and one of the most important cities along the Silk Road.  Return to Mary and visit the museum. Afternoon drive to Ashgabat (optional flight). Overnight Ashgabat. Meals: B

Day 19: Sightseeing in Ashgabat including the National Museum of History and Ethnography of Turkmenistan, old Nisa, the ancient Parthian settlement, and the Anau ruins. Overnight Ashgabat. Meals: B
   
Day 20: Ashgabat -Dashoguz- Kunya Urgench-Khiva
Early morning 50-minute flight to Dashoguz. then drive to Kunya Urgench. Visit Kunya Urgench historical sites: mausoleums of Turebek-Khanym, Sultan Tekesh, Sultan Il Arslan, Najmad-din-Kubra, Sultan Ali. View the Kutlug Timur minaret and Kyrk Molla, Izmukhir. Return drive to Dashoguz. Cross the border to continue to Khiva, Uzbekistan, where your Uzbek driver will meet you and transfer you to Khiva. Overnight Khiva. Meals: B

Day 21: Full day visit of Khiva: Ark Fortress, Ichan kala, Madrasah Muhammad Aminkhan, Madrasa Muhammad Rahimkhan, Kalta Minor, wood workshop, carpet Workshop, Pahlavan Mahmud mausoleum, Shergazikhan madrasa, Juma mosque and Minaret, Tash Hauli palace, Caravanserai and bazaar. Evening transfer to Urgench airport (35 kms from Khiva) for flight to Tashkent. Meet and transfer to hotel in Tashkent. Overnight Tashkent.
Free time in the afternoon. In the evening transfer to the airport in Urgench, flight to Tashkent. Arrival to Tashkent, transfer to the hotel. Overnight at the hotel. Meals: B

Day 22: Transfer from hotel to airport. End of services.

Option #2: 16 days Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan

Day 1: Flight to Almaty. Arrival Almaty, transfer to the hotel. Free time. Overnight Almaty.

Lake Issyk Kul, Kygryzstan
Day 2: Almaty
 sightseeing: Visit Panfilov Park, Zenkov wooden Cathedral, St.Nicholas Cathedral, the National Musical Instruments Museum, Almaty's Green Bazaar, Panoramic view at observatory. Overnight Almaty.


Day 3: Almaty – Bishkek (250 kms): After breakfast depart Almaty and drive to Bishkek, capital of Kyrgyzstan via a newly-built highway. After lunch, enjoy an afternoon sightseeing in Bishkek: visit the Central Museum, the Panfilov park, the bazaar. Overnight Bishkek.

Day 4: Bishkek - Grigorevka Gorge – Cholpon Ata: Drive to Lake Issyk Kul (240 kms), one of the world's largest mountain lakes at 1607 metres. After arrival, drive to Grigorevka gorge full of lush green alpine meadows and fir trees, then do an easy hike in the gorge. Next stop is in Cholpon Ata where you will be able to visit the petroglyphs, rock carvings lying under the open sky. Overnight Cholpon Ata.

Day 5: Issyk Kul - Bishkek (240 km) Return to Bishkek visiting Burana Tower en route. Overnight Bishkek.

Day 6: Bishkek -Tashkent: Depending of the day of the week, catch a morning or evening 90-minute flight to Tashkent. Transfer to Tashkent hotel.

Registan complex, Samarkand
Day 7: Tashkent - Samarkand (300 kms 5 hrs) After breakfast drive to Samarkand (If previous day arrival in Tashkent is in the morning, sightseeing of Tashkent will be the afternoon of that day. If arrival is in the evening, then the city tour of Tashkent will be in the morning before departure to Samarkand). Visit Tashkent: Old city, Khasti Imam, Mui Muborak library, Tilla Shaeikh mosque, Chorsu bazar and Applied Arts museum. After lunch in local restaurant, afternoon drive to Samarkand. Overnight Samarkand.

Minaret, Bukhara
Day 9: Samarkand - Bukhara via Shahrisabz (80 kms +290 kms) Drive to Bukhara via Shahrisabz, another UNESCO world heritage site. Short city tour of Shahrisabz, visit Ak Saray ruins, Kok Gumbaz mosque, Juma mosque, Jahangir’s mausoleum. After lunch, continue driving to Bukhara. Overnight Bukhara.

Day 10: Bukhara: Full day walking city tour of Bukhara. Visit Ismael Samanid mausuoleum, Chashmai Ayub, Bolo Hauz mosque, Ark Fortress, Kalyan mosque and minaret, Mir Arab Madrasa, Taki Zargaron, Ulughbek and Abdulazizkhan madrasa, Tim Abdullakhan, Taki Telpakfurushon, Magaki Attari mosque, Nadir Divan Begi Hanaka and Madrasa and Chor Minor. Overnight Bukhara.

Day 11: Bukhara - Mary (380 kms): Leave early to drive to Turkmenistan border and meet your Turkmenistan guide and driver. Complete all visa formalities and continue driving to Mary, and oasis in the Karakum desert. Overnight Mary.

Day 12: Mary – Merv - Ashgabat: Drive to Bairamaly (25 kms). Sightseeing in ancient Merv, founded in the 6th century BC and one of the most important cities along the Silk Road.  Return to Mary and visit the museum. Catch afternoon flight to Ashgabat. Overnight Ashgabat.

Day 13: Ashgabat: Sightseeing in Ashgabat including the National Museum of History and Ethnography of Turkmenistan, old Nisa, the ancient Parthian settlement, and the Anau ruins. Overnight Ashgabat.
