Terms and conditions

Reservations If you book a tour directly with Steppe Journeys (except different travel portals), a non-refundable, non-transferable US$100 deposit for Uzbekistan and Central Asian tours as well as a completed booking form and signed participant declaration for each tour are required to confirm your reservation. The advance deposit can be paid after booking the tour either by bank wire or online payment if available. The balance of the Steppe Journeys tour cost is required at least 2 months prior to departure.  Neither the deposit nor the balance payment may be applied to another tour: the cancellation conditions below will apply if you cancel your reservation on a specific tour. Cancellations Cancellations must be in writing, either by e-mail or by letter. Neither the deposit nor the balance payment may be applied to another tour: the cancellation conditions below will apply if you cancel your reservation on a specific tour. Please consider taking out a trip insurance policy at the time of booking your tour. You will need to discuss this with an insurance company. Cancellation fees: More than 60 days in advance: US$100 (Uzbek and Central Asia tours)  60 to 30 days prior to Day 1: 50% of tour cost Less than 30 days prior to Day 1: 100% of tour cost Airfares, other than those specified in your Steppe Journeys tour itinerary, are not included in the cost.  Any cancellation conditions imposed by airlines should be clarified with your flight booking agent.  Steppe Journey’s endeavors to carefully monitor events in Central Asia. If due to natural disasters or political instability, etc, it is deemed safer to cancel the tour, Steppe Journeys will refund you all monies paid to Steppe Journeys minus an administrative fee of US$300. Other fees you may incur, e.g. flight cancellation penalties, passport costs, etc are nonrefundable through Steppe Journeys. Please refer to the section below on comprehensive travel insurance. If customers book and purchase local and regional air tickets through Steppe Journeys (Tashkent-Urgench, Urgench-Tashkent, Tashkent-Almaty, Almaty-Tashkent, Tashkent-Bishkek or Bishkek-Tashkent), there is a nonrefundable penalty fee of US$50 per air ticket after the purchase of the flight ticket. If the ticket is to be canceled less than 74 hrs before the flight, a 100% penalty has to be charged. Current Air Ticket Prices: Tashkent-Urgench or Urgench-Tashkent or Nukus-Tashkent USD$75 per person one way. Tashkent-Bishkek, or Bishkek-Tashkent USD$190 per person one way. Almaty-Tashkent, Tashkent-Almaty USD$220 per person one way. ** All of the above flight tickets prices are subject to change. Should this happen, Steppe Journeys will inform you in writing in advance. Passports and visas Your passport must be valid for at least six months after your arrival in Uzbekistan and/or Kyrgyzstan/Turkmenistan or Kazakhstan. Should you require re-entry permits to your country of residence, it is your responsibility to obtain them. Most foreign nationals require a visa to enter Turkmenistan and Tajikistan. Many western countries do not need a visa to enter Uzbekistan,  however some do and must obtain an e-visa to Uzbekistan in advance through www.e-visa.gov.uz.  In addition, most countries do not require a visa for Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan for stays up to 60 days. Please contact Steppe Journeys if you need assistance with visa arrangements to any of the Central Asian countries. Medical matters It is your responsibility to advise Steppe Journeys of any pre-existing medical conditions and/or disabilities that might reasonably be expected to increase the risk of you requiring medical attention, or that might affect the normal conduct of a tour and the enjoyment of other tour members if you are participating in a group tour.  The tours include a lot of walking and standing in historic sites, often in the sun.  Also, some of the hotels where you stay might not have elevators, only stairs, sometimes steep. Please bring a torch or flashlight because footpaths and roads can be uneven. Please note that Uzbekistan is a developing country and public toilet facilities may be basic.  There will be no medically qualified escorts on the tour unless, by chance, a fellow participant has medical qualifications. But basic medical service in Uzbekistan is free of charge and your guide can call an ambulance to the hotel or take you to the hospital for a medical check. Service is free but tipping is welcomed.  Again, trip cancellation insurance with medical evacuation is advisable.
